Payroll Accountant | Matrix Finance and Accounting

The Tone:
This is a full-time, hybrid role at Matrix Finance and Accounting, located in Seattle, WA. This organization supports a large private marine services company, providing specialized financial and accounting expertise. This role is crucial for ensuring accurate and compliant payroll tax operations across various jurisdictions. The Payroll Accountant will handle critical tax filings and reconciliations, directly impacting the company’s financial integrity and compliance.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Tax Return Preparation: Prepare federal payroll tax returns, including forms 941 and 940, along with state and local tax filings across multiple jurisdictions.
• Payment Processing: Process all required payroll tax payments to federal, state, and local authorities accurately and on time.
• Reconciliation and GL: Perform comprehensive reconciliations of payroll tax accounts and manage related general ledger entries.
• Tax Analysis: Analyze the treatment of various payroll tax items to ensure compliance with current regulations.
• Audit and Response: Research and respond to notices received from Federal, state, and local tax agencies concerning payroll tax matters.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or a related field.
• Experience: A minimum of 2 years of experience in payroll tax, demonstrating familiarity with SUTA, FUTA, SUI, 940’s, and 941’s.
• Skills: Payroll tax return preparation, payroll tax payment processing, account reconciliation, general ledger management, payroll tax analysis.
