GIS Intern | Michael Baker International

The Tone:
This is a part-time GIS Intern role for Summer 2026 at Michael Baker International, based in Kansas. This role is essential for assisting seasoned GIS and Project Managers on Indoor Mapping field collection projects, directly contributing to Michael Baker International’s mission of serving as a trusted adviser to communities, making them safer, more accessible, more sustainable, and more prosperous.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Field Data Collection: Conduct field collection activities for indoor mapping projects across various locations in Kansas.
• Technical Project Support: Provide technical duties and daily activity assistance to seasoned GIS and Project Managers.
• Structured Work Schedule: Perform duties Friday through Sunday, working approximately 20-40 hours per week.
• Inter-state Travel: Travel to specific project locations within Kansas, such as Coffeyville, Garnett, Parsons, Oswego, Cawker City, Beloit, Olpe, Neosho Rapids, Americus, and Allen, with travel expenses covered.
• Geospatial Team Collaboration: Collaborate closely with an experienced team specializing in geospatial disciplines to achieve project goals.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Student currently residing in the state of Kansas and actively pursuing an Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in GIS, Geography, Science, or a closely related field of study.
• Experience: Possesses a valid US Driver’s License and demonstrates required software proficiency in GIS applications and Microsoft Office suite.
• Skills: Exhibits excellent analytical capabilities, strong written and verbal communication skills, and proven proficiency in the organization and presentation of documentation.
• Bonus: Preference for candidates with a specific academic focus in GIS, Geography, or Environmental Practice.
