Insurance Defense Paralegal | State Farm

The Tone:
This is a hybrid role at State Farm, located in Harrison, NY. • Team: Supports Daniel Brown & Associates, State Farm’s insurance staff counsel, within a team that includes Legal Administrative Support, Legal Secretaries, and Paralegals.
• Mission: This person supports attorneys in delivering high-quality legal services and preparing cases for various legal proceedings.
• Tech Stack: Evermap, Adobe Bookmarking, Case Management system, Document Storage system

What You’ll Actually Do
• Discovery: Assist attorneys in discovery and pre-trial matters under attorney supervision.
• Case Management: Assist attorneys in handling assigned case files and delivering other legal services under attorney supervision.
• Trial Preparation: Prepare cases for court appearances, depositions, and trial, including contacting experts and clients.
• Medical Records: Get involved with medical record collection, medical record and billing summaries, and medical chronologies.
• Legal Drafting: Draft motions and pleadings.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Prior litigation or paralegal experience, a paralegal degree/certificate/certification, medical training, or relevant coursework or legal studies degree.
• Experience: 1-7 years of recent civil litigation experience (preferably insurance defense or personal injury), prior paralegal litigation experience, and a background in drafting discovery responses, trial preparation, and drafting motions/pleadings. Familiarity with New York Civil court rules and procedures and experience reviewing medical records and preparing medical chronologies.
• Skills: Strong organizational skills, the ability to work independently, prioritize workload, multi-task in a busy environment, and communicate effectively. Strong written communication skills, attention to detail, and strong software/technical skills.
