Paralegal Support Services Specialist | Kahana Feld

The Tone:
This is a full-time, non-exempt role at Kahana Feld, initially in-office with a hybrid schedule after 90 days. Kahana Feld is a law firm providing legal services across multiple practice groups. This role is crucial for ensuring continuous, reliable legal support by covering paralegal absences, managing overflow, and triaging urgent requests across the firm’s departments to maintain service continuity.

• Mission: Ensure continuity of legal support across departments by managing triage, covering absences, and assisting with overflow.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Coordinate Paralegal Triage and Support: Respond to urgent or last-minute requests received via the Paralegal Triage email, prioritizing and allocating time effectively to handle simultaneous demands from different practice groups.
• Provide Comprehensive Absence Coverage: Ensure seamless continuity of client service and adherence to deadlines by stepping into active cases and projects with minimal transition time when paralegals are on vacation, medical leave, or other absences.
• Perform Core Paralegal Functions: Draft, edit, and manage legal documents, including pleadings and discovery; assist with legal research, cite-checking, and document review; and coordinate and track filings with state and federal courts, understanding electronic filing processes.
• Support Litigation and Trial Preparation: Assist with all stages of litigation by managing case files and document databases, and when required, prepare for trial logistics including exhibits, witness binders, and evidence tracking, providing in-office or on-site trial support.
• Manage Workflow and Billing: Assess and communicate workload issues and capacity to the Paralegal Manager, rotate across practice areas as needed, and accurately document and bill for all billable and non-billable work according to procedures to meet annual requirements.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent experience working in a legal environment; demonstrated knowledge of and experience with all stages of litigation, including pre-trial, trial, and post-trial procedures.
• Experience: 5+ years of paralegal experience in a law firm setting.
• Skills: Strong organizational, multitasking, and communication skills; ability to adapt quickly and work effectively across multiple teams and practice groups; proficiency with legal software; working knowledge of the code of civil procedure, civil code, local rules, and courtroom rules and procedures.
• Bonus: JD degree is a plus; litigation and insurance defense experience preferred; prior experience in multiple practice areas a strong plus.
