The Paralegal I is crucial for ensuring accurate legal work and moving municipal legal matters forward, directly impacting public safety and community well-being.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Manage: Prepares and maintains civil case files, including litigation matters.
• Draft: Drafts agreements and other legal documents, ensuring legal sufficiency, content accuracy, and correct formatting.
• Support: Assists attorneys with magistrate and district court collection matters, manages housing evictions, and represents the city in small claims court.
• Process: Handles public records requests, coordinates real property transactions, and processes property and weapons dispositions.
• Research: Performs legal and factual research at an attorney’s direction and independently reviews appellate briefs for accuracy.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Associate’s degree in paralegal studies, with a focus on civil law, legal case management, and legal research and writing.
• Experience: Four years of experience in civil law, legal case management, legal research and writing, or assisting attorneys.
• Skills: Legal terminology, principles, and procedures; legal document preparation and review; legal research methods; civil law and court processes; computer usage, including related software.
• Bonus: Bachelor’s degree in paralegal studies, legal assisting, or pre-law studies and six years of experience in civil law, legal case management, legal research and writing or assisting attorneys. Experience researching and interpreting complex regulations, policies, ordinances, statutes, laws, and codes.
