Paralegal for the Executive Counsel | Maryland Judiciary

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at the Maryland Judiciary, located in Linthicum Heights, MD. The Maryland Judiciary is a substantial state organization responsible for administering justice throughout the state. This position is vital to the Commission on Judicial Disabilities, providing comprehensive legal and administrative support to the Executive Counsel and ensuring the efficient operation and mission advancement of the Commission. The successful candidate will contribute significantly to maintaining the integrity and accountability of the judicial system.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Meeting Management: Organize and attend monthly meetings, preparing materials, drafting summaries, managing logistics, and ensuring proper documentation and follow-up.
• Document Preparation: Assist with the drafting, review, revision, proofreading, and transmittal of minutes, reports, correspondence, orders, and various other legal and administrative documents.
• Record Keeping: Maintain and update comprehensive physical and electronic records, case files, subject matter files, and data collection for the Executive Counsel and Commission.
• Legal Research and Monitoring: Conduct legal and general research, prepare memoranda, and monitor state and national cases, rules, and legislation relevant to the Commission’s work.
• Litigation and Hearing Support: Provide extensive support for hearings and conferences, including organizing filings, managing evidence, coordinating logistics, and preparing legal documents.

The Must-Haves
• Background: An AA Degree or Paralegal Certification is required, coupled with a minimum of three years of work experience in a legal or court environment.
• Experience: Three (3) years of work experience in a legal or court environment, including researching and analyzing law sources, statutes, judicial proceedings, and legal documents. Sixty (60) college credits or additional related legal work experience may substitute for two (2) years of the required associate’s degree or paralegal certification.
• Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, legal research platforms, and data entry; strong organizational, critical thinking, and written communication skills; exceptional attention to detail and interpersonal skills; ability to maintain strict confidentiality and high ethical standards.
• Bonus: Knowledge of the Maryland judicial disciplinary process is helpful but not required; ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and adapt to change.
