This is a full-time role at the City of New York, specifically within the Kings County District Attorney’s Office (KCDA), located in Brooklyn, NY. KCDA is one of the largest prosecutor’s offices in the country, dedicated to developing innovative strategies to keep Brooklyn safe while ensuring fairness and justice for all. This Paralegal position within the Criminal Court Bureau plays a vital role in investigating and prosecuting misdemeanor cases, directly contributing to public safety and justice in the community.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Trial Preparation: Prepare misdemeanor cases for trial to ensure readiness and efficiency.
• Document Drafting: Prepare necessary legal documents, including subpoenas, orders to produce, and material witness orders.
• Evidence Collection: Obtain critical case documents and footage such as NYPD paperwork, body worn camera footage, and medical records.
• Witness Coordination: Contact civilian witnesses and notify police officers for trial preparation and appearances.
• Case Management: Establish a filing system to monitor discovery materials and work performed on all assigned cases.
The Must-Haves
• Background: A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, or an associate degree coupled with two to four years of paralegal or legal assistant work experience.
• Experience: Two to four years of full-time satisfactory work experience in paralegal or legal assistant services if possessing an associate’s degree; a Paralegal Certification from an ABA-approved program can substitute for one year of experience.
• Skills: Strong organizational, time management, and prioritization skills, along with proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
• Bonus: Ability to work independently and as part of a team, assertive demeanor, detail-oriented approach, and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
