Paralegal – Consumer Law Crime Victims | CAMBA

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at CAMBA, located in Brooklyn, NY. CAMBA is a community-focused organization providing over 180 integrated programs to build an inclusive New York City where all individuals have access to resources to thrive. This role is critical in supporting CAMBA Legal Services (CLS) by providing essential paralegal support for consumer law cases, specifically assisting crime victims. The position directly helps low-income New Yorkers improve their lives by offering free civil legal services.

The TL;DR
• Role: Full Time
• Type: Full-time (35 hours per week)
• Location: In-person, Brooklyn, NY
• Pay: $63860–$96551 yearly
• Team: Reports to Legal
• Mission: Support attorneys and clients by researching law, investigating facts, and preparing legal documents for consumer law crime victims.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Client Support: Assist clients with legal intake, complete applications and forms, and assess their situations and needs.
• Legal Research: Research and analyze legal sources such as statutes, judicial decisions, articles, and codes to support cases.
• Document Preparation: Prepare legal documents including letters of advocacy, affidavits, and forms for administrative or court hearings.
• Case Investigation: Investigate the facts and law of cases to determine causes of action or defenses and prepare cases accordingly.
• Advocacy & Referrals: Provide victim advocacy and accompaniment services, make referrals, and coordinate with internal and external programs for integrated service delivery.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Associate’s Degree with two years of applicable experience or a Bachelor’s Degree.
• Experience: Minimum of two years applicable experience if holding an Associate’s Degree.
• Skills: Legal research and analysis, legal document preparation, client intake and assessment, fact investigation, client advocacy and liaison.
• Bonus: Prior experience working in the consumer and/or immigration field, prior experience working with crime victims, and fluency in Spanish.
