The Tone:
This is a role at a collaborative, close-knit small to midsized law firm, specializing in class action litigation. The firm provides essential legal services to a diverse client base, and this position is crucial to its operational success. The Paralegal manages complex class action caseloads, ensuring smooth departmental operations and contributing significantly to team development and training. This role directly impacts the firm’s ability to deliver high-quality legal support and maintain efficient case management.

The TL;DR
• Role: Experienced Individual Contributor
• Location: In-person, Chicago, IL

• Team: Reports to department leadership within a collaborative law firm, working closely with attorneys, legal assistants, and junior paralegals.
• Mission: To effectively manage a class action caseload, ensure operational excellence, and contribute to departmental training and development initiatives.
• Tech Stack: Litify, legal case management systems.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Case Portfolio Management: Manage a diverse portfolio of class action cases, including frequent, proactive communication with clients regarding case status and next steps.
• Legal Document Preparation & Filing: Draft and serve discovery, pleadings, and various client communications, while also formatting, finalizing, and accurately filing documents in relevant courts, including delivering courtesy copies as needed.
• Attorney & Court Support: Provide comprehensive assistance to attorneys with preparations for depositions, hearings, and general court appearances, ensuring familiarity with all e-filing procedures.
• Operational Oversight & Quality Control: Maintain accurate reporting and ensure stringent quality control across all matters through the effective use of Litify and other legal case management systems.
• Departmental Development & Training: Assist with the onboarding and training of new team members, contribute to staffing recommendations and team evaluations, and help develop robust case criteria, reporting processes, and matter management systems.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Demonstrated experience in a paralegal role, specifically managing high-volume litigation matters within a legal firm, exhibiting a proactive and detail-oriented approach.
• Experience: Direct experience with filing legal documents in both federal and Illinois state courts, coupled with practical familiarity with litigation drafting, discovery processes, and the utilization of legal case management systems.
• Skills: Essential skills include strong organizational capabilities, excellent communication for interacting with clients and legal teams, proficient time management, and meticulous attention to detail for proofreading and redlining work.
• Bonus: Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is highly valued and considered a significant asset for this role.
