What You’ll Actually Do
• Document Preparation: Prepare legal documents for litigation and administrative hearings, ensuring accuracy and compliance with legal procedures.
• Legislative Support: Compile materials and assist in the preparation of ordinances, regulations, resolutions, contracts, leases, and permits for City Council.
• Court Filings: Process court documents, demonstrating knowledge of legal procedures, formats, and terminology in accordance with federal, state, and local rules.
• Legal Research: Perform legal research, gathering comprehensive information regarding laws, ordinances, regulations, and court decisions relevant to assigned projects.
• Public Records Management: Assist with Public Records Act requests, coordinating with City departments, monitoring deadlines, and performing redaction of exempt information.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree or a certificate in a formalized paralegal training program, with a commitment to supporting meaningful public service work in a collaborative legal environment.
• Experience: Three (3) years of increasingly responsible administrative experience in a law office or agency, including one year of paralegal experience with a municipality.
• Skills: Methods of legal research, understanding of legal procedures, terminology, forms and documents, clear written and oral communication, and ability to operate modern office equipment.
• Bonus: Experience preparing ordinances, resolutions, and contracts, conducting legal research, and assisting with public records requests, preferably within a municipal or government setting.
