Paralegal | Milber Makris Plousadis Seiden

The Tone:
This is a hybrid role based in Woodbury, New York, requiring four days in-office and one day remote after an initial training period. Milber Makris Plousadis & Seiden, LLP is a full-service civil litigation defense firm that partners with the insurance industry. This Paralegal position is integral to supporting legal teams by managing case files and drafting essential documents, ensuring efficient case management and client interaction. The individual will contribute directly to the success of the firm’s legal practice.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Litigation Support: Provide comprehensive insurance defense litigation support, reviewing case assignments and examining claim documents, pleadings, and supporting records for consistency and legal sufficiency, while also identifying relevant deadlines.
• Case Management and Coordination: Manage calendars for assigned caseloads, coordinate effectively with support services, opposing law firms, and various courts to ensure smooth case progression.
• Legal Document Drafting: Draft a variety of legal documents for attorney review and use, including pleadings, discovery demands and responses, notices, affidavits, subpoenas, RJIs, and other routine legal documents.
• Document Production and E-Filing: Handle document productions and redactions, and proficiently execute electronic filings and e-service in both State and Federal Courts.
• Trial Preparation and Expert Management: Prepare witness and exhibit lists, compile trial binders, coordinate the retention of expert witnesses, and manage the preparation of expert indexes and production of records.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Requires prior law office experience, along with a keen eagerness to learn, strong organizational abilities, and the capacity to multitask effectively.
• Experience: A minimum of 3 years of prior paralegal experience, with computer proficiency in MS Word, Outlook, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat.
• Skills: Demonstrated highly proficient typing with excellent grammatical accuracy; exceptional verbal and written communication skills with a strong knowledge and understanding of legal terminology and procedures; and proven proficiency in drafting legal documents and handling electronic filings in State and Federal Courts.
• Bonus: Experience specifically in insurance defense litigation and/or paralegal certification is advantageous but not strictly mandatory.
