Compensation & Benefits

  • Paid Internship: Earn an hourly rate of pay for your contributions.
  • Scholarship Award Program: Rieth-Riley offers scholarships for all full-time student interns, paid at the end of your internship:
    • After your 1st year: $1,500
    • After your 2nd year: $1,750
    • After your 3rd year: $2,000
    • After your 4th year: $2,250

Summary of Key Responsibilities

As an intern, you will assist and support an estimator, project manager, superintendent, or quality control specialist with a wide range of on-site administrative tasks, operations, and technical aspects of heavy highway/road construction projects. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Technical & Field Support:
    • Surveying, testing, and sample collection.
    • Drawing correction and filing.
    • Density testing and core sample collection.
    • Quality control calculations and measurements.
    • Supervision of punch-list activities.
  • Administrative & Project Management Support:
    • Report preparation and submittal logging and processing.
    • Safety inspections.
    • Timekeeping and cost control, inventory control.
    • Schedule checking and subcontractor monitoring.
    • Reviewing drawings and specifications for completeness, accuracy, or discrepancies.
    • Assisting with planning and scheduling.
    • Processing change orders and extra work orders.
    • Preparing requests for progress payments.
    • Arranging utility services.
    • Obtaining permits and licenses, checking zoning and code requirements.
  • Estimating & Proposal Support:
    • Preparation of quantity take-offs.
    • Calling vendors and subcontractors for proposals.
    • Attending bid openings and conferences.
  • Reporting & Documentation:
    • Preparing charts and formal reports.

Qualifications

  • Education: Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Engineering and/or Construction Management preferred.
  • Skills:
    • Strong quantitative and analytical skills.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office is essential.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Good organization skills.
    • Problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Work Ethic:
    • Self-motivated; ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Adaptable and able to thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
