Optics Engineering Co-op Job Description
This position offers a co-op opportunity to work on Cisco’s elite optical communication products. The exact role may not be open currently but could become available in the near future. Applying now will allow Cisco representatives to contact you directly if a relevant position opens.
What You’ll Do:
The Optics Engineering Co-op will contribute to Cisco’s optical communication products by performing one or more of the following tasks:
• Support Design Verification Testing (DVT): Ensure that coherent transceivers meet optical specifications under various operating conditions.
• Develop Calibration and Test Procedures: Help create procedures to ensure consistent high transceiver performance across a wide range of conditions (temperature, production variation, aging, power levels, etc.).
• Develop Control Loops & Performance Monitoring: Create methods, scripts, and software for control loops in transmitter/receiver systems and performance monitoring related to power levels, GSNR/OSNR/SNR estimation.

You will join the Optics team, a group of engineers dedicated to designing, developing, and applying optical systems and devices for high-speed data transmission. This work is crucial for supporting the increasing demands of hybrid work environments and ensuring reliable, high-capacity network connections.

Minimum Qualifications:
• Full-Time Enrollment: Currently enrolled in a full-time undergraduate or graduate program in physics, electrical engineering, or a related field.
• Python Skills & Optics Knowledge: Proficiency in Python and understanding of basic optics principles.
• On-Site Availability: Ability to be on-site in Maynard, MA five days a week.
