Job Description: Optical Engineer Internship (TikTok)

This internship at TikTok offers students hands-on experience in developing fundamental skills and exploring potential career paths. The program includes social events and development workshops, allowing interns to apply their knowledge in real-world scenarios and build a strong foundation for personal and professional growth. The internship runs for 12-24 weeks, starting in May/June 2025 or August/September 2025. Specific start dates are available upon application.

Responsibilities: The role focuses on the design and evaluation of ophthalmic lenses. This includes:

• Designing and optimizing ophthalmic lenses using advanced optical design software (e.g., Zemax).
• Developing theoretical, optical modeling and simulation pipelines to evaluate lens performance across various lens designs and frame-wearing positions (e.g., pantoscopic tilt, wrap angle) from both optical and human vision/perception perspectives.
• Developing metrology testing tools to assess ophthalmic lens performance and validate results against simulation and modeling data.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications: PhD candidate in Optical Engineering, Physics, or a related field; experience in optical design, preferably within the ophthalmic technology sector; expert proficiency in optical design software (Zemax preferred); background in visual optics and human vision science; proficiency in MATLAB or Python for optical modeling and data analysis.
Preferred Qualifications: Background in Liquid Lens and Liquid Crystal Lens.

Compensation: The hourly rate for this internship in Los Angeles is $75-$75. Benefits include day-one access to health insurance, life insurance, wellbeing benefits, 10 paid holidays per year, and paid sick time (56 hours if hired in the first half of the year, 40 if hired in the second half). Benefits may vary depending on the nature of employment and work location. The company reserves the right to modify or change benefits programs at any time.
