Operations Manager Trainee – Fleet Maintenance | Ryder System, Inc.

The Tone:

This role is crucial for supporting shop management processes, driving cost savings, enhancing customer retention, and implementing metric-based initiatives across various business functions. The program is designed to be fast-paced, exposing trainees to every aspect of the business unit, with a clear path for internal career progression to an Operations Supervisor based on performance.

• Mission: To learn and support the management of a heavy-duty truck repair shop, contributing to cost savings, customer retention, and operational efficiency through a fast-paced training program.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Customer Relationship Management: Be responsible for cultivating strong customer relationships, including proactive management, timely issue resolution, and ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction.
• Fleet Utilization and Sales Support: Coordinate with the rental department to maximize fleet utilization without impacting lease customers, and partner with the Sales team on new business calls to increase customer satisfaction.
• Cost and Maintenance Oversight: Manage running costs and maintenance overheads, ensuring adherence to established policies and processes to optimize expenses.
• Maintenance Operations Coordination: Coordinate with Maintenance, Asset Management, Sales, and Marketing teams to ensure customer satisfaction, overseeing PM scheduling, breakdown response, vehicle status updates, and technician work planning for efficiency.
• Program Conclusion Relocation: Relocate within the business unit upon the successful completion of the training program.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Requires a completed 4-year Bachelor’s Degree. This is an early-career role focused on learning fleet maintenance operations management.
• Experience: Requires strong PC knowledge including advanced spreadsheet and word processing software. A basic understanding of Business Finance, controls, and metrics is also required.
• Skills: Detail-oriented with excellent follow-up practices, strong verbal and written communication skills, and the capability to multi-task while remaining highly organized with excellent time management. Strong mechanical skills are required, alongside effective interpersonal and influencing skills to build professional relationships across all organizational levels.
• Bonus: Preferred candidates will have 1 year or more of experience in customer service with issues resolution.
