Job Description: Operations Internship
This 10-to-12 week summer internship program is specifically for highly motivated technical school students. The program aims to provide immediate impact through learning from senior leaders, collaboration with colleagues, and individual projects that leverage interns’ unique skills. Robust training and development are also included.
Key Responsibilities and Expectations:
• Technical Skills Development: Interns will refine technical skills and gain hands-on experience in the operations of natural gas systems. Projects may include training in electrical, instrumentation, and controls; I/E support; flow path training; transmitter calibrations; line locations; pigging; valve maintenance; daily rounds and readings within the gathering system; and mechanical maintenance, preventative maintenance, compliance activities, and general cleaning of facilities/assets.
• Operational Support: Interns will assist with a variety of tasks to safely maintain facility equipment and support operations. This includes collaborating with others to solve technical or operational problems.
• Safety and Compliance: Interns will acquire knowledge of and follow requirements for safe and efficient facility operation, task execution, and protection of the community, personnel, environment, and assets.
• Record Keeping: Interns will complete assigned reports, logs, and maintain accurate records of process operations and preventative maintenance on equipment.
• Other Duties: Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
• High School Diploma/GED
• Current enrollment in and completion of one semester of: Engineering Science, Automotive Technology, or Diesel Technology at Southwest Texas Junior College; Engineering Science, Automotive Technology, or Diesel Technology at St. Philip’s College; Automotive Technology, Industrial Mechanics, or Oil & Gas Technology at Coastal Bend College.
• Physical Requirements: Ability to work in extreme temperatures, loud noises, and enclosed spaces; lift up to 50 lbs and team lift loads over 50 lbs; stand, walk, climb, bend, stoop, and squat for extended periods; work at elevated levels using appropriate PPE; and use hand tools.
• Other Requirements: Valid State Driver’s License and clean driving record; no sponsorship available; excellent organizational/interpersonal skills; safety as a top priority; proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications and PC skills; strong problem-solving, analytical, creative thinking, and verbal/written communication skills; prior leadership experience.
Compensation:
• Compensation: Non-negotiable rate of $26.52/hour.
• Housing Stipend: Provided.
• Relocation Assistance: Provided for those moving more than 50 miles from their home and school address.
