Operations Analytics Co-op

As an Operations Analytics Co-op, you will collaborate with analytics professionals within various operational departments, contributing to the efficiency and performance of Delta’s airline operations. This role offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic and data-driven environment.

How You’ll Help Us Keep Climbing (Overview & Key Responsibilities)

Co-ops will be assigned to one of the following functions or departments, providing critical analytical support:

  • Integrated Operations Planning (IOP) – Focus on optimizing aircraft schedules and resource availability to maintain peak on-time performance.
  • Operations Digital & Decision Science (ODDS) – Contribute to the development of decision science tools and digital product solutions.
  • Corporate Safety, Security & Compliance (CSSC) – Support initiatives aimed at enhancing the safety and security of the airline and its employees.
  • Airport Customer Service (ACS) – Work on improving airport processes and managing performance metrics.
  • Crew – Help improve Pilot and Flight Attendant operations and performance efficiency.
  • Delta Connection (DC) – Support end-to-end analytics and cross-divisional operational initiatives for Delta’s regional airlines.
  • Flight Operations (FOP) – Manage aircraft and gate-to-gate operations and performance analysis.
  • Onboard Services (OBS) – Optimize processes, supply chain, and inventory of inflight products and services.
  • In-Flight Services (IFS) – Contribute to enhancing the customer onboard experience and catering operations and performance.
  • Operations & Customer Center (OCC) – Track on-time flight metrics, analyze weather impacts, and perform day-of-flight analyses.
  • Central – Manage centralized operations and competitive performance analyses across various departments.

While specific responsibilities will vary by assigned function or department, common work responsibilities include:

  • Measuring current operational performance and/or customer satisfaction.
  • Identifying optimization opportunities, such as reducing injuries and security line wait times.
  • Researching, analyzing, and interpreting operational data to uncover insights.
  • Developing new reports and dashboards, and automating existing reporting processes.
  • Performing reliability and root-cause analysis for parts and maintenance issues.
  • Evaluating and providing recommendations for improving key operational metrics, including aircraft time at gate, gating efficiency, and feasibility of aircraft schedules.
  • Seeking operational improvements to reduce aircraft taxi time and flight time.
  • Maintaining, running, and improving staffing models to support airport operations.
  • Providing strategic and operational support, and developing performance metrics and goals.
  • Developing success factors and statistical evaluations of new procedures and initiatives.

What You Need To Succeed (Minimum Qualifications)

To be eligible for this Co-op program, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Program Structure: Students are required to complete three alternating semesters of full-time work and school. All rotations must be completed before the student’s graduation. Students are not permitted to work part-time hours and should refrain from taking classes while working as a co-op in the same semester.
  • Work Schedule: The full-time work schedule for this role includes the following alternating semesters:
    • Summer 2026
    • Spring 2027
    • Fall 2027

    Please ensure that this alternating semester rotation works with your university, curriculum, and/or academic advisor before applying.

  • Education: Currently enrolled in an Undergraduate program in pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Analytics, Economics, Industrial Engineering, Information Systems, or a similar 4-year degree program.
  • Availability: Available for three alternating semesters for full-time work.
  • Location: Ability to report in-person to Delta’s World Headquarters (Atlanta, GA) or willing to relocate each semester. Housing stipends will be provided to students who meet the minimum criteria.
  • Team Orientation: Team oriented and highly supportive of continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Skills: Strong organizational, project management, and verbal/written communication skills are essential.
  • Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and data analysis tools and concepts.
  • Preferred Technical Skills: Proficiency in Python, SQL or similar database query tool knowledge, and Macro programming is strongly preferred.

  • General Requirements: Possesses a high school diploma, GED, or high school equivalency. Is at least 18 years of age and has authorization to work in the United States.
