Operational Technology Specialist

Job Type: Full Time, Permanent

Work Style: Hybrid – 3 days in-office

Salary Range: $69,900 – $144,900 USD Annually, plus an 8% annual bonus

Location: Hammond, IN, or Merrillville, IN

About the Role

As an Operational Technology Specialist, you will play a crucial role in maintaining and enhancing critical Energy Management System (EMS) applications, databases, and displays. This position involves utilizing robust change-management methodologies and SCADA modeling standards to ensure the continuous and reliable operation of our electric environment. You will be responsible for completing and maintaining overall application documentation, managing day-to-day application changes, and formulating project scopes and objectives by collaborating directly with end-users to understand business requirements.

Operational Technology Specialists may work within one of the following specialized disciplines:

  • Energy Management System Support: Focus on modeling SCADA systems, ICCP (Inter-Control Center Communications Protocol), and calculations.
  • Operations Software and Application Development: Involve the development and enhancement of applications specifically designed to support the Operational Technology electric environment.
  • Network and Security Support: Responsibilities include the design, development, and implementation of network operations, network architecture, and network security solutions, along with monitoring capabilities.
  • Infrastructure Support: Encompasses Server, Desktop, VMware, Citrix, and SAN administration, as well as Directory server management.

Key Responsibilities

Your responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Performing all required operational maintenance and troubleshooting of supported systems.
  • Collaborating with vendors, application developers, database administrators, corporate IT, and other technology groups to effectively resolve problems.
  • Assisting in the design and development of System implementations.
  • Evaluating and testing software changes and updates provided by vendors prior to their installation.
  • Maintaining appropriate change management documentation for all hardware and software modifications.
  • Providing assistance related to the installation, operation, and maintenance of computer software application programs as an Application Management System Support Specialist.
  • Serving as a primary contact person to receive and handle support tickets and resolve support-related issues.
  • Providing hands-on technical maintenance or guiding users through troubleshooting and resolution processes via phone or electronic platforms (e.g., real-time chat).
  • Tracking support records and analyzing data to identify patterns of common issues and contributing to continuous improvement.

Minimum Qualifications

You must possess the below minimum qualifications to be initially considered for this position. Experience listed below could be obtained through a combination of school work, classes, research, or any relevant previous job or internship experiences.

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience.
  • 1+ years of experience with IT Systems support such as help desk, infrastructure support, application support, or related duties.
  • Experience with MS Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred qualifications are in addition to the minimum requirements and are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates.

  • Familiarity with SQL and Java.
  • Oracle Administrator experience.
  • SQL Server Administrator experience.
  • Related experience in the utility industry.
