Overview of Department:
The Data & Analytics team, a component of the Strategic Initiatives Department, serves as the MTA’s central hub for data management, utilization, and sharing. Its primary roles include consolidating diverse MTA data sources, devising and automating innovative analyses to extract valuable insights, and distributing these data products and related skills.

Responsibilities:
The key functions for the Open Data Associate Intern include:
• Developing Python code to support and enhance open data pipelines and data infrastructure projects.
• Designing and documenting datasets intended for publication on data.ny.gov.
• Creating data visualizations by pulling data from the open data API.
• Executing tasks necessary to prepare access to data products.
• Ensuring the timeliness and sustained quality of data deliverables.
• Preparing comprehensive user documentation.
• Setting up on the portal interface.
• Performing other assigned tasks to help achieve team objectives.

Projects:
The intern will be involved in various projects, including:
• Developing new datasets for publication on data.ny.gov.
• Establishing data pipelines to facilitate automated data refreshes.
• Creating data visuals on metrics.mta.info.

Required Qualifications:
• Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Possess strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and prioritize tasks efficiently.
• Demonstrate a keen eye for detail and the capacity to work independently while actively contributing as a team player.

Required Education:
• Must be matriculated in an undergraduate program in good standing with a minimum GPA of 2.5, AND/OR matriculated in a graduate program in good standing with a minimum GPA of 2.8.
Preferred Majors: Computer Science, Public Policy, Economics, Urban Planning, or a related field.
