The Tone:
This is a contract role at Varsity Tutors, located remotely. Varsity Tutors builds an advanced live learning platform leveraging technology and AI to provide personalized online tutoring experiences. This role is crucial for delivering customized instruction to middle school students, helping them achieve academic success and understanding in mathematics. As a tutor, you will make a direct impact on students’ learning journeys from the comfort of your home. Please note that Varsity Tutors does not contract in Alaska, California, Colorado, Delaware, Hawaii, Maine, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Vermont, West Virginia or Puerto Rico.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Deliver: Provide personalized 1-on-1 online tutoring for individual middle school math students.
• Facilitate: Guide students through complex math concepts, breaking down topics like fraction operations and multi-step word problems using visual models and real-world contexts.
• Support: Utilize AI-powered Tutor Copilot to enhance sessions with real-time instructional support, lesson generation, and engagement features.
• Adapt: Adjust instruction and teaching methods to meet individual student learning styles and needs, considering common challenges in grades six through eight.
• Invoice: Submit invoices for tutoring sessions, with Varsity Tutors managing all payment logistics.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Deep knowledge of middle school math standards for grades six through eight, including integers, fractions, decimals, percentages, ratios, order of operations, algebraic expressions, basic equations, geometry, measurement, and data analysis.
• Experience: Skilled at conceptual teaching and problem-solving, proficient in breaking down topics using visual models and hands-on manipulatives, and capable of identifying common student struggles.
• Skills: Strong communication skills, a friendly and engaging teaching style, and adaptability to different learning styles while building confidence and mathematical maturity.
