The Tone:

This role is crucial for delivering one-on-one math support to middle school students, directly contributing to their academic success and understanding of foundational concepts.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Provide Instruction: Deliver personalized, in-depth online tutoring sessions to individual middle school math students.
• Guide Learning: Break down complex math topics using visual models, hands-on manipulatives, and real-world connections.
• Adapt Teaching: Adjust instructional methods to meet individual learning needs and styles, scaffolding abstract reasoning and building confidence.
• Enhance Sessions: Utilize AI-powered tools within the Live Learning Platform for real-time instructional support, lesson generation, and engagement features.
• Manage Schedule: Set your own flexible hours and accept on-demand instant tutoring requests to provide immediate support.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Possess deep knowledge of core middle school math concepts, including integers, fractions, decimals, percentages, ratios, proportions, order of operations, algebraic expressions, basic equations, geometry fundamentals, measurement, and data analysis. This includes the ability to effectively explain number sense, coordinate plane plotting, and mathematical reasoning, with a strong focus on building foundational skills for high school math and standardized testing.
• Experience: Demonstrated skill in breaking down complex topics like fraction operations, proportion problems, and multi-step word problems using visual models and manipulatives. Proven ability to guide students through pre-algebra concepts, geometric calculations, and interpreting statistical graphs, emphasizing conceptual understanding through real-world applications.
• Skills:
• Curriculum Awareness: Familiarity with middle school math standards for grades six through eight and an understanding of common student challenges such as fraction division and solving multi-step equations.
• Adaptive Instruction: Capacity to tailor instruction using a concrete-pictorial-abstract progression, interactive activities, and targeted scaffolding to support abstract reasoning and mathematical maturity.
• Effective Pedagogy: Ability to identify difficult concepts and explain material using multiple approaches, coupled with strong communication skills and an engaging teaching style.
