The Tone:

Varsity Tutors operates a Live Learning Platform designed to transform how people learn by leveraging advanced technology, AI, and the latest in learning science. The platform aims to create personalized learning experiences through 1-on-1 online tutoring, matching students with appropriate tutors. This role is crucial for tutors to make a real impact on students’ academic success and understanding, helping them achieve their specific learning goals and fostering a passion for learning.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Tutoring: Deliver personalized 1-on-1 online instruction to individual students and be available to accept instant, on-demand tutoring requests.
• Subject Instruction: Provide deep knowledge and explanations of advanced Math 3 topics, including polynomial and rational functions, logarithmic and exponential modeling, and trigonometric functions and identities.
• Advanced Concepts: Teach statistics, covering normal distributions and inference, and geometric modeling with volume and cross-sections, explaining concepts like polynomial division, unit circle values, and margin of error.
• Student Preparation: Prepare students for success in precalculus, AP courses, SAT, and college mathematics placement by addressing common challenges and using cumulative review strategies.
• Conceptual Guidance: Guide students through complex problem-solving, such as breaking down polynomial long division, solving logarithmic equations, and verifying trigonometric identities, while emphasizing mathematical modeling and real-world applications in biology, physics, and financial analysis.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Demonstrate advanced subject mastery in Math 3, with deep knowledge across polynomial and rational functions, logarithmic and exponential modeling, trigonometric functions and identities, statistics including normal distributions and inference, and geometric modeling with volume and cross-sections. This includes the ability to explain concepts like polynomial division, unit circle values, and margin of error.
• Experience: Possess familiarity with Integrated Math 3 curricula and Common Core standards, recognizing common student challenges such as graphing rational functions, understanding logarithmic scales, and applying the normal distribution.
• Skills:
• Exhibit strong conceptual teaching and problem-solving abilities, skilled at breaking down complex topics and guiding students through modeling periodic phenomena, analyzing rational function behavior, and performing statistical inference.
• Employ effective teaching methods, including identifying common student struggles, explaining material using multiple approaches, and adapting instruction to individual learning needs and styles.
• Possess strong communication skills and a friendly, engaging teaching style, coupled with the ability to adapt to different learning styles and student requirements.
• Capable of leveraging resources like graphing technology and data analysis projects to support student learning and preparation for higher-level mathematics.
