Job Description: Office Technician
The Office Technician at SAM plays a crucial supporting role in GIS analysis, data validation, and map production. This position directly contributes to enhancing both client projects and internal operations within the Managed Geospatial Services™ framework.
Key responsibilities and functions of the Office Technician include:
• GIS Data Management: Actively involved in the preparation, collection, organization, and input of data. This is essential for maintaining and enhancing client GIS databases, which includes conducting field research and processing GPS data.
• Data Integration: Provides support in interpreting various source documents, such as as-built drawings, construction plans, engineering plans, recorded maps, deeds, legal descriptions, and imagery. These diverse data sources are then incorporated into GIS systems using methods like coordinate geometry (COGO), digitizing, and GPS data processing.
• Mapping and Layer Maintenance: Responsible for the creation and ongoing maintenance of multiple GIS layers. These layers encompass critical information like parcels, streets, rights-of-way, zoning, development layers, and water and sewer system layers, ensuring all data is current and accurate.
• Quality Assurance & Control (QA/QC): Adheres to established quality assurance and quality control processes. This involves performing routine data management tasks, including data validation, correction, running queries, and editing within GIS systems to guarantee the accuracy, integrity, and completeness of the data.
• GIS Analysis and Map Production: Assists with GIS and data analysis, which includes preparing and executing spatial queries. The role also involves producing high-quality maps, spreadsheets, graphs, and other analytical products as required for project planning and reporting.
• Field Data Collection: Conducts essential field research and GPS data collection. This involves ensuring spatial accuracy and proper documentation of site conditions and project-specific requirements.
• Documentation and Reporting: Maintains meticulous records of all GIS data modifications, analysis results, and project progress. The technician is also responsible for generating reports and visual representations for various stakeholders as needed.
• Collaboration: Works closely and collaboratively with engineers, surveyors, and project managers. This ensures that all GIS data aligns perfectly with project specifications and client needs, fostering seamless integration across teams.
