NYAP – Foster Care Internship

Location: Warren, OH

The National Youth Advocate Program (NYAP) is actively seeking applications for its Foster Care Internship program for the Summer 2026 and Fall 2026 semesters.

This valuable opportunity is designed for students passionate about making a difference in the lives of foster care youth and families.

About the Internship:

As an intern with NYAP’s Foster Care team, you will gain substantial hands-on experience working directly with the foster care population. This role offers a unique chance to delve into the complexities of foster care services, develop critical skills, and contribute meaningfully to the community.

In addition to your primary role, you will be given the opportunity to rotate into other departments within our agency. This rotation aims to provide you with a more complete and holistic understanding of the diverse work performed by NYAP and its impact.

Who Should Apply:

This internship is exclusively for students currently enrolled in a Bachelor of Social Work program from an accredited College or University.

Applications will be accepted through February 23, 2026.

Your Internship Experience May Include:

  • Working directly with foster care youth and foster parents.
  • Gaining experience in case management practices.
  • Learning about diagnostic assessments and treatment plans for youth.
  • Developing skills in assessing and engaging with youth.
  • Observing various interventions for youth in different settings.
  • Interacting with a diverse group of stakeholders, including caregivers, parents, foster parents, school staff, office staff, and other mental health professionals.
  • Learning essential documentation and paperwork procedures inherent to social work.
  • Traveling daily to provide vital community-based services to youth and families.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be enrolled in a Bachelor of Social Work program from an accredited College or University.
  • An internship or field placement must be a requirement by your academic institution.
  • Upon the successful completion of the internship, you must receive academic credit towards your pursued degree.
  • Must be 21 years of age at the start of the internship.
  • Proficient use of desktop and laptop computers, smart phones and tablets, as well as software including word processing, spreadsheet, and database programs.

Driving and Vehicle Requirements:

  • Possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Have access to reliable personal transportation.
  • Maintain a good driving record.
  • Hold minimum automobile insurance coverage of $100,000/$300,000 bodily injury liability.
