Nutrition Graduate Intern Description
This is a fantastic opportunity for a nutrition graduate to gain practical experience in nutrition education and make a real impact on the campus community. The role involves collaborating closely with the leadership team to develop skills and gain valuable experience in various areas, including:
• Foodservice operations: Understand the workings of a large-scale food service operation.
• Nutrient analysis: Learn to evaluate the nutritional content of meals and menus.
• Higher education marketing and promotion: Develop marketing materials and strategies to promote healthy eating and dining services.
• Nutrition education: Deliver credible nutrition education and engaging wellness programs to students and staff.
• Demo Kitchen programming: Participate in planning and executing cooking demonstrations and workshops.
• Food safety: Gain knowledge of food safety regulations and practices.
You will work alongside the Campus Dietitian, playing a key role in implementing and promoting dining programs on campus. This includes:
• Planning and executing wellness events and Teaching Kitchen programs.
• Developing wellness promotional materials and event calendars.
• Conducting audits of food allergy stations and menu signage.
• Collaborating with the campus dining management team to organize and execute events and wellness projects.
• Providing support to the marketing department with nutrition-related promotions.
• Attending meetings and events to stay informed and contribute to team discussions.
• Contacting students and faculty for private teaching kitchens, providing recipe suggestions, and accommodating dietary restrictions.
• Developing shopping lists and coordinating with chefs to acquire ingredients for events.
• Creating visually appealing graphics to advertise dining services events and initiatives.
The ideal candidate will possess:
• Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
• Customer service experience or knowledge.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated interest and basic knowledge in nutrition.
• Culinary skills (a plus).
• Basic Canva design skills.
• Prior marketing-related experience (a plus).
• A strong work ethic and commitment to teamwork.
• Initiative to research information using evidence-based platforms.
• Professionalism, positive attitude, and a willingness to support colleagues.
• Reliability in meeting deadlines and effectively communicating with supervisors and team members.
• An openness to constructive criticism and feedback for improvement.
• Commitment to working a minimum of 15 hours per week.
• Reliable transportation for commuting to various campus locations.
