As a Nutrition Graduate Intern at Chartwells Higher Education UNC Charlotte, you will collaborate closely with the leadership team to develop skills and competencies, gaining practical experience in nutrition education. You’ll have the opportunity to gain valuable experience across various areas, including foodservice operations, nutrient analysis, higher education marketing and promotion, nutrition education, Demo Kitchen programming, and food safety.
Working alongside the Campus Dietitian, you will play a pivotal role in implementing and promoting dining programs on campus. You will serve as an integral part of the team, working closely with other dining service members to achieve goals and enhance campus awareness of food allergy programs and special dietary offerings.
Essential Job Duties/Responsibilities include:
• Planning, organizing, and executing monthly wellness events and Teaching Kitchen programs.
• Developing wellness promotional materials and event calendars.
• Conducting audits of food allergy stations and menu signage.
• Collaborating closely with the campus dining management team to organize and execute events and wellness projects seamlessly.
• Providing support to the marketing department by assisting with nutrition-related promotions and projects.
• Attending meetings or other events as required to stay informed and contribute to team discussions.
• Contacting student and faculty members who have requested private teaching kitchens, and providing recipe suggestions based on their preferences, taking into account any food allergies or dietary restrictions.
• Developing comprehensive shopping lists and coordinating with campus chefs to acquire necessary ingredients for events and programs.
• Creating visually appealing graphics to advertise dining services events and initiatives across campus.
• Delivering credible nutrition education and engaging wellness programs to promote healthy eating habits and overall well-being among students and staff.
Expectations for this position include:
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Customer service experience or knowledge is essential.
• Strong interpersonal skills are a must.
• Demonstrate interest and basic knowledge in the field of nutrition.
• Culinary skills are a plus.
• Basic Canva design skills.
• Prior marketing-related experience.
• Exhibit a strong work ethic, providing assistance and support to coworkers.
• Take initiative to research information using evidence-based platforms provided by the registered dietitian when lacking knowledge in a certain area.
• Act professionally, arriving to work with a positive attitude and readiness to support, serve, and collaborate with other team members.
• Be reliable in meeting deadlines and effectively communicate needs to supervisor and other team members.
• Accept constructive criticism and feedback, and apply it to improve performance.
• Commit to working a minimum of 15 hours per week unless determined otherwise by the supervisor.
• Possess reliable transportation for commuting to various campus locations and traveling 5 miles.
