Job Description:

This is a temporary position for nursing students to gain practical experience in various nursing areas. As a nursing student, you will work under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) and will be co-assigned with them. Your responsibilities will encompass both direct and indirect patient care.

Key responsibilities include:
• Assisting the RN in providing direct patient care to promote comfort and assist in diagnostic and treatment procedures.
• Assisting patients with activities of daily living.
• Performing designated procedures as needed, following departmental procedures.
• Observing, recording, and reporting patient concerns, symptoms, reactions, and progress to the RN.
• Assisting the RN with examinations and procedures.
• Demonstrating competency in basic and intermediate care skills (verified by nurse mentor, preceptor, manager, and/or director).
• Educating self and peers to increase competence.
• Attending staff meetings and unit in-services.
• Assisting with indirect care by maintaining a clean and safe environment.
• Cleaning patient care areas and equipment.
• Potentially acting as a sitter for patients.
• Potentially having limited access to medication during transport of non-controlled substances.

Minimum qualifications:
• Must be entering the final semester/year of a Diploma Program, Associate, or Baccalaureate RN program from an accredited School of Nursing.
• Must obtain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days of hire.

Physical requirements:
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
• Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and push/pull heavy loads.
• Possess visual, auditory, and oral acuity, along with manual dexterity and technical ability.

Working environment:
• The role is performed in a hospital environment.
