Job Description:

Opportunity: A chance for December 2025 nursing graduates to begin their nursing career at Aurora St. Luke’s on the Neuro Medical Stroke and Seizures Unit (10LM).
Unit Focus: Stroke and patients with seizure disorders. The unit manages a video EEG monitoring program. It is part of the Comprehensive Stroke Program.
Unit Culture: Fully staffed department with nurses dedicated to the development and growth of new nurses. No travelers or agency staff are employed in the department.
Position Progression: Start as a Nurse Extern, gain hands-on experience, and transition to a Graduate Nurse position within the same department upon graduation.
Requirements:
• Med-surg and pharmacology coursework completed.
• Unofficial school transcript showing completion of med-surg and pharmacology courses is required.
Responsibilities:
• Under RN observation, perform activities of daily living, vital sign completion, and blood glucose monitoring.
• Collaborate with the RN to establish a patient care plan.
• Communicate patient needs and observations to the RN.
• Develop delegation skills for Health Unit Coordinators, Nursing Assistants, and technical roles.
• Administer medications as delegated by the RN, after evaluation of clinical judgment and skill proficiency.
• Manage an increased number of patients and incorporate time management principles.
• Collect and synthesize patient data to identify patient status and needs.
• Participate in emergency situations under RN supervision, within areas of demonstrated knowledge and skill.
• Perform patient positioning and transporting duties.
• Demonstrate knowledge and skills to provide age-appropriate care.
Requirements:
• Current enrollment in an accredited nursing program.
• Successful completion of a Medical Surgical Course that includes pharmacological concepts.
• Good interpersonal skills and adaptability.
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, and reach.
• Lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, and sliding transfer abilities as specified.
• Functional vision and hearing.
• Exposure to mechanical, electrical, chemical, and radiation hazards, as well as blood and body fluids.
