NNL Summer Technical Internships – Nuclear Engineering

Naval Nuclear Laboratory offers internship opportunities for college students to gain valuable work experience in the summer of 2027. These internships provide an immersive professional experience in your field of study, allowing you to work directly with world-class engineers, scientists, researchers, and technicians. Interns will receive real-world experience and mentorship, contributing to projects that have a direct impact on the Navy’s nuclear fleet.

Interns will work with state-of-the-art techniques in various areas, including:

  • Researching and developing new technologies and concepts
  • Designing and testing software, components, or integrated systems
  • Developing models and performing data analysis
  • Supporting operations and developing process controls and procedures

Program Highlights:

Internship Program Details:

  • The NNL Internship is a 10-12 week program starting in May/June 2027.
  • Successful completion of the program may result in a return internship or full-time employment offer.

Required Combination Of Knowledge And Skill

Candidates for Nuclear Engineering internship positions must meet the following criteria:

  • Pursuing Nuclear Engineering or related BS, MS or PhD degrees from an accredited college or university.
  • Must have completed at least their first full year of college by May 2027.
  • Must be enrolled/continuing in a degree program throughout this internship.

Preferred Skills

  • Cumulative minimum GPA 3.0/4.0
  • Prior related internship, co-op or work experience (paid or volunteer)
  • Department of Energy (DOE), Department of Defense (DOD) or Naval Nuclear Program experience

Pay Range:

$25.00/hour – $42.50/hour

Salary information provided is a general guideline only. Hourly salary is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

About the Naval Nuclear Laboratory (NNL)

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is operated for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) by Fluor Marine Propulsion, LLC (FMP), a wholly owned subsidiary of Fluor Corporation.
