Description: Internship/Graduation Assignment in Mechanical Engineering

This is a challenging opportunity for HBO or WO level Mechanical Engineering students seeking a graduation or internship assignment. The focus of the assignment is to improve the hold-down performance of flatbed printers.

The Problem:

Flatbed printers rely on vacuum pressure underneath the media to keep it securely in place during printing. The efficiency of this “hold-down” performance depends not only on the vacuum level but also on the uniformity of the pressure distribution.

Your Challenge:

You’ll be tasked with optimizing the pressure uniformity underneath the media while adhering to various design constraints. The ultimate goal is to develop a proven concept through feasibility studies and validations.

Specific Responsibilities:

Experimental Work: Conduct hands-on experiments related to vacuum pressure and hold-down performance.
Numerical Analysis (Optional): Utilize 1D or CFD modeling techniques to analyze and optimize the pressure distribution.
Concept Development: Create new design concepts to enhance hold-down performance.
Feasibility Studies & Validation: Conduct thorough studies to assess the practicality and effectiveness of your concepts.
Mechanical Component Design: Design and develop new mechanical components that contribute to improved pressure uniformity.
Material Investigations: Research and analyze different materials suitable for the design.
Stakeholder Alignment: Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure your design aligns with project requirements.

Required Skills & Currently pursuings:

Mechanical Engineering Background: Currently studying Mechanical Engineering at HBO or WO level.
Problem-Solving & Innovation: Proactive and independent attitude with a knack for finding creative solutions.
Experimental Expertise: Ability to perform hands-on experiments and collect data.
Flow Domain Knowledge: Understanding of fluid dynamics and pressure distribution principles.
Design Principles: Familiarity with mechanical design concepts and principles.
Modeling Experience (Optional): Experience with CFD analysis or 1D modeling using languages like Matlab or Python.
Availability: Available for 4 to 8 months.

Benefits:

Challenging Assignment: Work on a meaningful project with skilled coaching and support.
Compensation: Receive a monthly internship/graduation stipend of €500,- along with travel cost compensation if needed.
Networking Opportunities: Connect with professionals within and outside your field of expertise.
Collaborative & Innovative Culture: Work in an environment that values collaboration, innovation, and ownership.
Flexible Work Arrangement: Possibility to partially work from home in consultation.
