ML Research Intern, Behaviors Team
Mission Summary:
We are seeking a highly motivated intern to join our Behaviors team. In this role, you will conduct cutting-edge research on Machine Learning for prediction and planning within the context of autonomous driving. You will collaborate with the team responsible for foundational projects like nuScenes, nuPlan, PBP Trajectory Prediction, and DriveIRL. The goal is to deliver innovative ML technologies that align with Motional’s core values, upholding the highest standards of quality, scientific rigor, and innovation.
What you’ll be doing:
- Conduct research on driving behavior-related topics, including but not limited to motion prediction and planning, agent simulation, scenario generation, and Vision-Language-Action (VLA) models.
- Work with large-scale internal real-world driving datasets to validate and demonstrate the effectiveness of your research findings.
- Collaborate with various internal teams to facilitate the deployment of your research results into autonomous vehicles and participate in on-road testing.
- Actively contribute to the scientific community by publishing research results in top-tier papers and patents.
What we are looking for:
- Currently enrolled in a Master’s or PhD program in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a similar technical field of study.
- Possess a strong Machine Learning research background, evidenced by publications in any of the following top-tier conferences: RSS, ICRA, CoRL, CVPR, ICRL, ICML, NeurIPS, etc.
- Proficiency in Python coding and experience with PyTorch or other commonly-used deep learning frameworks.
- Demonstrated one-team mindset and proven ability to effectively collaborate with other researchers and engineers.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Previous experience in autonomous driving is preferred.

- This is a hybrid onsite internship position.
- Location options: Boston, MA or Pittsburgh, PA.
