About the Job
This position is for a role that involves performing analyses on various sample types within a laboratory setting. The individual is expected to maintain proper records, use independent judgment to generate acceptable test results, and ensure quality, efficiency, and safety in their laboratory functions. This role is a fully effective and participative member of a multidisciplinary patient care services team.
Principal Responsibilities And Tasks:
• Independent Testing: Perform waived, moderate, and high complexity testing using both manual and automated processes.
• Regulatory Compliance: Comply with and participate in all regulatory agency guidelines (e.g., CLIA 88, TJC, CAP, FDA) and address concerns as needed.
• Problem Resolution: Independently identify and resolve analytical problems, troubleshoot equipment issues, and take corrective action regarding testing procedures, patient results, and specimen integrity, seeking guidance when necessary.
• Troubleshooting & Documentation: Independently troubleshoot and resolve issues, documenting corrective actions.
• Quality Control: Independently review and record quality control data, determining the acceptability of testing, patient results, and instrument function by applying QA/QC principles daily.
• Customer Service: Respond to clinical and customer concerns, independently resolving issues confidentially with integrity and discretion.
• Training & Education: Attend and/or lead mandatory education, training, and in-service meetings specific to the department.
• Procedure Development: Assist with the development and modification of procedures and assume additional responsibilities as appropriate.
• Other Duties: Perform duties as assigned related to the job description.
Qualifications:
• Education and Experience:
• Required: A Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Biology, or related sciences, OR an Associate Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or related field, OR completion of a Military Laboratory Technician program with experience.
• Experience: 0-1 years (with Bachelor’s degree) preferred; a minimum of 3 years of clinical laboratory experience is required for those with an Associate’s degree in MLT/related science or military training.
• Certification: ASCP or equivalent is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities:
• Proficient knowledge of clinical laboratory processes, analytical procedures, and various laboratory equipment, including routine maintenance and calibration.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to perform basic computer skills used in a laboratory setting.
• Ability to perform mathematical and statistical operations for recording and evaluating lab results.
• Ability to follow detailed written or verbal instructions accurately.
• Ability to handle potentially infectious materials (blood, body fluids) while observing proper safety regulations and procedures.
• Ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient population(s) served, including understanding growth and development principles across the life span and assessing patient requirements relative to their population-specific and age-specific needs.
Additional Information:
• Schedule: Every other weekend, night shift.
• Compensation:
• Pay Range: $25.72 – $42.37 per hour.
