About the Company:

Global Health Leaders (GHL) is an international healthcare education and research firm. They focus on advancing accessible healthcare around the world. GHL provides internship and volunteer opportunities to deliver essential medical services in developing countries to individuals in extreme poverty who lack access to healthcare. The company also conducts research to improve healthcare globally.

Job Description:

GHL is offering an unpaid Medical Research Internship in either the Dominican Republic or Belize. This 16-week program (15 weeks remote, 1 week in-country) aims to introduce students to the concepts, lifecycle, and execution of various research topics and models.

Key Responsibilities:

• HIPPA Training (included in program)
• Perform specific protocol procedures such as interviewing subjects and taking vital signs.
• Meet with various departments to fully understand the lifecycle of a research project
• Write literature reviews.
• Conduct follow-up and testimonial interviews.
• Attend regularly scheduled staff meetings.
• Perform special projects as they become available.
• Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

The internship involves working with local medical doctors on the ground for data collection. Remote work will be alongside an experienced advisor on a research project, with the goal of publishing the results.

Requirements:

• Current or prospective university student in a course of study related to research or healthcare.
• Ability to maintain professionalism and professional standards.
• Must have a sense of urgency.
• Ability to set priorities.
• Identify and resolve problems effectively and efficiently.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills for managing workflow and follow-up.
• Ability to demonstrate reliability and maintain confidentiality.
• Possess temperament and emotional intelligence for dealing with others professionally.
• Must have a “do-what-it-takes” attitude.
• Excellent speaking skills to communicate clearly and effectively with patients, physicians, industry professionals, and others in person or over the phone.

Additional Information:

• This is an unpaid internship.
• Travel to the Dominican Republic or Belize for one week is not covered by the internship and is the responsibility of the intern.
• The internship includes background and criminal history checks, as well as reference checks.
• The internship is ideal for public health, global health, healthcare research, biomedical, and healthcare administration students.
