The Media Relations Internship
This internship offers aspiring public relations professionals and journalists a chance to gain real-world experience in the dynamic world of professional sports. You will work alongside the team’s communications department, gaining hands-on experience in:
• Preparing and distributing media credentials
• Contributing to game notes
• Press box management
• Statistical research
• Working with New York sports media
As a Game Day staff member, you will assist with duties during all Islanders preseason, regular season, and playoff home games throughout the 2024-25 season, starting in September 2024.
Your responsibilities will include:
• Attending all New York Islanders home games, including pre-season and post-season (typical game night hours: 2-11 p.m., with rotating morning shifts beginning at 8:30am)
• Facilitating game day tasks like media credentialing, press-box setup, media hospitality, stat distribution, and stat tracking
• Distributing statistics and notes to media, scouts, and team staff before, during, and after games
• Supporting the Communications Department in all administrative needs
• Researching and maintaining team and player statistics
• Helping the PR Department prepare in advance of all Islanders home games
• Maintaining the press box and media work room
To be considered, you must:
• Be organized and able to multi-task and problem-solve in a fast-paced work environment
• Be a hard-working, detail-oriented, respectful self-starter who works well in a team
• Be organized, punctual, and professional in both actions and attire
• Be comfortable using AP Style
• Have strong hockey knowledge (preferred)
• Have previous public relations, communications, or journalism experience (a plus)
• Be proficient in Adobe suites (including Photoshop and InDesign) (preferred)

The internship will take place at:
• UBS Arena (Elmont, NY) for all Islanders home games
• Northwell Health Ice Center (East Meadow, NY) for some practices
• Events can fall on evenings, weekends, and/or holidays
• You will primarily report to UBS Arena in Elmont, NY
