Job Description: MECOP Intern – SW Engineering / Application APIs

This internship, based in Hillsboro, OR, offers a chance to contribute to a significant business area. Interns work on projects aligned with their abilities and current business needs, focusing on strategically and/or operationally important tasks. Responsibilities may include:

Process Improvement: Partnering with leadership to identify and address areas for efficiency improvement, benchmarking against industry best practices. Becoming a process owner, critically reviewing processes, and recommending improvements. Learning and applying continuous improvement methodologies (PPI, Six Sigma, etc.) to promote improvement initiatives.
Software Development: Participating in code, design, and test plan reviews. Developing software using Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) techniques, leveraging Agile and Waterfall methodologies, working with Windows and Linux platforms, and utilizing programming languages such as C#, C++, Java, and Python.
Collaboration: Working collaboratively across the IT function to achieve business objectives related to Global Information Security, Digital Technology & Delivery, Enterprise Application Systems, Business Intelligence, Global Infrastructure, Corporate Strategy & Integrations, E-Business, Digital Transformations, and Data Science.

Specifics:

Start Date: April 2025
Duration: 8-12 months (dependent on student availability)
Compensation: hourly rate between $21.50 – $28.75 (dependent on location, aligned with cost-of-living guidelines). A $5,000 relocation stipend is offered if the student lives 50+ miles from Hillsboro, OR.
Qualifications: Undergraduate student completing an Information Technology-related degree between December 2025 and June 2026. Previous internships are preferred, but not required. Strong results demonstrating integrity, innovation, involvement, and intensity are essential. Excellent interpersonal communication skills and emotional intelligence are also key. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States without requiring sponsorship. Thermo Fisher does not sponsor F-1, J-1, H-1, OPT, and CPT Visas for this position.
