Job Description: MECOP Intern – SW Engineering / Application APIs
This internship opportunity is based at Thermo Fisher Scientific’s Hillsboro, OR location, within the Materials and Structural Analysis division. This division focuses on developing and producing cutting-edge microscopy capital equipment for the semiconductor industry, enabling the development and manufacturing of advanced semiconductor devices.
Responsibilities:
As an intern, you will be assigned to a project based on your skills and the business needs. The projects are strategically important to the business and may include:
• Process Improvement: Identifying and addressing areas for efficiency improvements, benchmarking with industry best practices, and recommending improvements.
• Continuous Improvement: Learning methodologies like PPI and Six Sigma, and promoting improvement initiatives.
• Software Development: Participating in code, design, and test plan reviews. Developing software using OOP techniques, applying Agile and Waterfall methodologies, working with Windows and Linux platforms, and utilizing programming languages such as C#, C++, Java, and Python.
• Collaboration: Working across the IT function to achieve business objectives related to various IT areas like Global Information Security, Digital Technology & Delivery, and Data Science.
Qualifications:
• Undergraduate student pursuing an Information Technology-related degree, graduating between December 2025 and June 2026.
• Prior experience with internships is preferred.
• Demonstrated track record of success, integrity, innovation, involvement, and intensity.
• Passion for driving change, achieving results, and navigating ambiguity.
• Excellent communication skills with a high degree of emotional intelligence.
• Legal authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
Compensation and Benefits:
• hourly rate between $21.50 – $28.75, dependent on location and cost-of-living guidelines.
• Relocation stipend of $5,000 for students residing 50+ miles away from the internship location.

• Start Date: April 2025
• Duration: 8-12 months, dependent on student availability.
