About Aalo Atomics

Aalo Atomics is at the forefront of a new era in clean energy, specializing in factory-fabricated microreactors designed to deliver affordable, scalable, and reliable nuclear power. Our overarching mission is to make nuclear energy globally accessible, starting with the Aalo-1, a 10 MWe reactor that incorporates cutting-edge safety, modularity, and efficiency. Based in Austin, TX, we are experiencing rapid growth as we work towards deploying the world’s first fleet of advanced microreactors. Join us and contribute to revolutionizing energy for a sustainable future.

About The Role

Join our team of mechanical engineers in Austin as we focus on designing, refining, and scaling the manufacturing processes that transform advanced-reactor designs into tangible hardware. This is a hands-on internship over a 12- to 16-week term where you will own a clearly scoped project, guiding it from concept through implementation. Throughout your term, you will benefit from daily mentorship and invaluable shop-floor experience.

What You’ll Do

  • Design, build, and update 3‑D CAD models, detailed drawings, and GD&T.
  • Program and prove out CNC tool‑paths on 3‑axis mills and 5‑axis mill‑turn centers alongside experienced machinists.
  • Draft work instructions, router steps, and inspection plans that meet both ASME and internal quality standards.
  • Collect production data, perform root‑cause analysis on non‑conformances, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Present your findings and quantified results to engineering leadership at the conclusion of the term.

Qualifications

Required

  • Possess a growth mindset and positive attitude.
  • Currently enrolled in a B.S. or M.S. program in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Manufacturing Engineering (or a closely related field).
  • Demonstrate ≥ 3 months of hands‑on engineering experience (e.g., course projects, research, internships, student shop work, or personal builds).
  • Possess a working knowledge of CAD/CAM and basic structural or thermal analysis.
  • Able to work full‑time, on‑site in Austin TX, for at least 12 consecutive weeks.

Preferred

  • Achieved a GPA of 3.4 + and successfully completed a manufacturing laboratory or capstone design course.
  • Possess ≥ 6 months experience applying GD&T and programming CNC equipment.
  • Familiarity with ISO or AS standards or comparable quality codes.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with technicians in a fast‑paced shop environment.

Additional Requirements

  • Must provide own housing and daily transportation to the Austin facility; on‑site parking is available.
  • Some tasks will involve standing, climbing ladders, and lifting up to 25 lbs while wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
