Job Description: Mechanical Lab Intern
How You’ll Make An Impact
Valvoline Global is seeking a motivated Mechanical Lab Intern to join their team at the Ashland Automotive Propulsion Laboratory. This internship provides hands-on experience in a dynamic automotive testing environment. The focus areas include internal combustion engines, powertrain components, and vehicle-level testing. The intern will collaborate with experienced engineers and technicians, contributing to real-world research and development projects aimed at advancing automotive lubricant performance.
Responsibilities Include:
• Assist technicians and engineers with maintenance, repairs, and system installations.
• Help design and set up testing components and mechanical assemblies.
• Support the setup, calibration, and troubleshooting of instrumentation and data acquisition systems.
• Participate in hands-on problem-solving and diagnostics across various test environments.
• Maintain accurate documentation, including maintenance logs, test data, and technical observations.
• Provide general technical support within the lab as needed.
• Adhere to all safety protocols and company procedures in a lab/testing setting.
What You’ll Need (Qualifications):
• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Technology, or a related field is preferred.
• Basic knowledge of mechanical systems and tools.
• Familiarity with measurement tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers).
• Experience or interest in 3D CAD modeling, 3D printing, or data acquisition systems is a plus.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and general computer use.
• Strong communication skills (both verbal and written).
• Ability to work both independently and in a team-oriented environment.
• Solid problem-solving and analytical thinking skills.
• Physical requirements: Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds, walk, climb, and stand for extended periods.
