This Opportunity: Mechanical Intern

As a Mechanical Intern, you will gain hands-on experience and contribute to various aspects of mechanical engineering projects, focusing on HVAC and plumbing systems in commercial buildings. You will work under the guidance of senior engineers, developing essential technical and professional skills.

HVAC Systems

  • Assist in the design of heating, cooling, ventilation, and exhaust systems for commercial buildings.
  • Perform heating and cooling load calculations.
  • Select equipment such as Air Handling Units (AHUs), Rooftop Units (RTUs), boilers, chillers, pumps, and Variable Air Volume (VAVs) boxes.
  • Develop ductwork and piping layouts.
  • Support energy efficiency and code compliance efforts.

Plumbing Systems

  • Assist in the design of domestic water, sanitary, storm, and specialty piping systems.
  • Size piping, pumps, water heaters, and fixtures.
  • Prepare plumbing plans, riser diagrams, and schedules.
  • Coordinate plumbing layouts with other trades.

General Engineering

  • Prepare construction documents using AutoCAD and/or Revit.
  • Review submittals and respond to Requests for Information (RFIs).
  • Participate in field visits and construction coordination.
  • Work under senior engineers to develop technical skills.

Essential Qualifications

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Basic understanding of building systems and mechanical principles.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD and/or Revit.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with load calculation software (e.g., HAP, Trace, EnergyPlus).
  • Exposure to plumbing design standards and codes.
  • EIT certification or progress toward PE licensure.
  • Experience in consulting engineering or construction environments.

Compensation and Benefits
