About the Role: Mechanical Engineering Intern, Ninja

Key Responsibilities and Learning Opportunities
As a Mechanical Engineering Intern, you will have the opportunity to engage in a variety of exciting and impactful activities, including:
- Contribute to the concepting and development of next-gen Ninja products through brainstorming, sketching, and prototyping bold ideas.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with engineers, designers, and product managers to explore innovative solutions to real-world consumer challenges.
- Build, test, and iterate prototypes and lab rigs, gaining hands-on experience in validating performance, usability, and reliability.
- Analyze data from testing and consumer feedback to inform design decisions and optimize product functionality.
- Participate in technical deep-dives and design reviews to uncover root causes of challenges and propose creative, practical solutions.
- Take ownership of engineering tasks with increasing complexity, gaining exposure to materials, mechanisms, manufacturing, and mass production considerations.
- Support design feasibility analysis, CAD modeling, and technical documentation alongside experienced engineers.
- Dive into the “why” behind the product, understanding the user journey and driving innovations that surprise and delight.
- Learn from failure, move fast, and iterate with purpose as you help bring never-been-done ideas to life at the speed of a startup backed by the muscle of a global brand.
Candidate Attributes & Skills
We are seeking a highly motivated individual who possesses the following qualifications:
- Education: Currently enrolled in a related associate’s, bachelor’s, or master’s program.
- Availability: Must be able to work a full-time, 40-hour-per-week schedule with 5 days per week onsite in Needham, MA.
- Mechanical Fundamentals: Strong understanding of mechanical engineering and physics fundamentals, including thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and mechanical design.
- Analytical & Problem-Solving: Solid analytical skills, keen attention to detail, and a relentless drive to identify potential problems and take responsibility for their resolution. Ability to identify, solve, implement, and verify technical solutions autonomously and as part of a team.
- Innovation Mindset: Intellectual curiosity, creativity, strong first principles thinking, a positive can-do attitude, and a proven ability to deliver robust, elegant, and innovative solutions to complex design challenges.
- Hands-on Experience:
- Willingness to roll up sleeves and dive into hands-on development and testing workstreams.
- Experience with hands-on prototype development in plastic and metal, including using basic machine shop tools.
- “Hands-on” building of prototypes and experimental testing, either in a workshop or science context.
- Technical Tools & Software:
- Exposure to CAD programs (ideally SolidWorks or Creo) and/or 3D printing/laser cutting.
- Familiarity with electronics (analog/digital), test equipment, and components common in small appliances (sensors, motors, heaters, PCBAs, etc.).
- Desirable: Experience with Developer kits such as Python, Arduino, Raspberry Pi.
- Communication: Ability to communicate clearly, effectively, and concisely with both technical and non-technical colleagues.
- Adaptability: Comfortable multitasking and responding quickly to shifting priorities without losing sight of longer-term projects.
- Passion: Passionate about product design and function.
Salary and Benefits
The hourly salary range for this position is $17—$44 USD. Starting pay within this range may be influenced by factors such as geography/market, skills, education, experience, and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
