Mechanical Engineering Intern

Central Specialty Pet is seeking a highly motivated Mechanical Engineering Intern to join our team and contribute to the innovative development of smart-enabled pet monitoring systems specifically designed for aquatic and reptile environments. This internship offers a unique opportunity for hands-on experience, providing direct ownership of an active product development project with a strong emphasis on CAD design, mechanical system integration, and collaborative teamwork.

Beyond core product development, the intern will also lead a crucial secondary project focused on establishing a standardized archiving solution. This initiative will encompass organizing legacy and future R&D project documentation, including project folders, CAD files, technical specifications, and test reports, ensuring efficient knowledge management for the team.

Key Responsibilities & Example Projects:

As a Summer Intern, you can expect to engage in the following types of projects and tasks:

  • Provide essential support for the development of one smart pet monitoring system.
  • Create and modify CAD models, assemblies, and detailed drawings, primarily utilizing ProEngineer Creo.
  • Support the mechanical design of various components, including enclosures, housings, and mounting solutions.
  • Collaborate closely with electrical and firmware teams on critical sensor integration.
  • Assist with prototyping activities and conducting form, fit, and function testing.
  • Lead the development of a standardized R&D project archiving framework for both legacy and future projects.
  • Present findings, progress updates, and recommendations to various stakeholders within the organization.

What We’re Looking For In You:

  • Currently enrolled as a Sophomore or Junior in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field.
  • Proven CAD proficiency (SolidWorks preferred).
  • A solid understanding of mechanical design fundamentals.
  • Possess strong organizational, documentation, and communication skills.

POSITION INFORMATION:

  • Compensation: This position pays $20 per hour, depending on experience.
  • Work Schedule: Enjoy a Hybrid Work Schedule, offering flexibility.
  • Location: The onsite office is located in Franklin, WI.
