Position: Mechanical Engineering Intern (Summer)
Position Summary
This internship offers an immersive experience within the mechanical, manufacturing, and tooling engineering department at Marvin Engineering. Participants will be mentored and work alongside experienced engineers, contributing to innovative projects. The primary goal is to equip interns with fundamental tools essential for a successful career in their field, with the potential for future full-time employment at Marvin Engineering.
Interns will gain exposure to the entire engineering design cycle, from initial concept development through integration, manufacturing, and testing. They will collaborate closely with engineers, manufacturing personnel, and technical management. Responsibilities will include supporting integration, design, technical solutions, and manufacturing processes for various products, including Rail Launchers, Bomb Racks, and Ground Vehicles.
The ideal candidate will effectively interface with multiple functional groups, including production, planning, engineering, quality, contracts/subcontracts, and other logistics and support personnel, to ensure the timely completion of deliverables for customers.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Training and application of MEC-specific tools such as CATIA V5, SolidWorks, and PDM.
- Design and documentation support using engineering tools, Adobe applications, and the MS Office suite.
- Assistance with Engineering Change Request (ECR), Engineering Change Notice/Order (ECN/ECO) processes, and Drawing Release procedures.
- Collaboration with coworkers and diverse teams on various projects.
- Training on MEC processes and procedures relevant to mechanical and manufacturing engineering.
Skills And Requirements (Desired)
- Demonstrated ability to be a team player, build consensus among peers, and establish effective relationships with multiple stakeholders.
- Proven ability to manage change effectively, identify issues, and work collaboratively with stakeholders to develop solutions.
- Capacity to inspire confidence and guide others in completing challenging systems-related tasks.
- General knowledge of manufacturing processes, including documentation, machining, welding, heat treatment, surface treatment, and assembly.
- Experience with Model-Based Engineering (MBE) and 2D drawing creation using CAD models (e.g., CATIA V5 & SolidWorks).
- Knowledge of Metal Galvanic Compatibility principles.
Basic Qualifications
- Must be a Sophomore, Junior, Senior, or Postgraduate student in Mechanical Engineering or a related field by the start of the summer internship.
- Fundamental understanding of Manufacturing or Mechanical engineering principles, including structures, mechanisms, materials, and analysis.
- Proficiency in utilizing CAD (Computer-Aided Design) for modeling, drafting, and release processes.
- Demonstrated techniques in mechanical design, drafting, and modeling.
- Strong problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (e.g., PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Project).
Preferred Qualifications
- A cumulative GPA of 3.5 or above is desired.
- Prior engineering project experience or previous internship experience.
- Experience with CATIA V5 and SmarTeam PDM.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office or other presentation tools.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with coworkers on cross-functional teams from diverse communities and cultures.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with colleagues who represent a diversity of work and conflict resolution styles.
- Basic knowledge in Geometrical Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) using the ASME Y14.5-LATEST standard.

Salary Range
Base Salary Range (Inglewood only): $20.00 to $25.00 Hourly
