The Tone:
This is a contract role at Varsity Tutors, located remotely. Varsity Tutors operates a Live Learning Platform that aims to transform education by leveraging advanced technology, AI, and the latest learning science to deliver highly personalized learning experiences. As an MCAT Tutor, you will play a significant role in providing customized instruction, directly impacting students’ MCAT scores and overall test readiness, thereby helping them achieve their academic goals and fostering a lasting passion for learning.

The TL;DR

• Pay: Up to $40 hourly
• Mission: Help pre-med students achieve competitive MCAT scores and test readiness for allopathic medical schools.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Provide: Deliver personalized 1-on-1 online instruction across all MCAT sections, adapting to individual learning needs and styles.
• Explain: Clarify complex scientific concepts, passage-based questions, experimental design, and data interpretation, emphasizing interdisciplinary connections and clinical relevance.
• Guide: Lead students through challenging topics like amino acid properties, metabolic pathways, experimental controls, psychological theories, and statistical interpretation.
• Strategize: Teach effective MCAT test strategies, including managing the 7.5-hour length, CARS timing, and building test-day stamina using AAMC official materials.
• Support: Utilize AI-powered Tutor Copilot for real-time instructional support, lesson generation, and engagement features, reducing prep time.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Demonstrated mastery of the MCAT exam with a minimum score of 508.
• Experience: Proven experience helping pre-med students achieve competitive scores for allopathic medical schools.
• Skills:
• Comprehensive knowledge of all MCAT sections: Chemical and Physical Foundations, CARS, Biological and Biochemical Foundations, and Psychological, Social, and Biological Foundations of Behavior.
• Ability to explain passage-based questions, experimental design, and data interpretation relevant to medical school admissions.
• Skilled at teaching integrated science concepts across biochemistry, organic chemistry, physics, biology, psychology, and sociology.
• Proficient in research study evaluation and critical reading of dense passages, along with guiding students through complex topics.
• Strong communication skills and a friendly, engaging teaching style, capable of adapting explanations to different learning needs.
• Bonus: Familiarity with the MCAT’s 7.5-hour length and common challenges such as CARS timing, biochemistry integration, and psychology/sociology terminology.
