Master’s of Social Work or Master’s of Clinical Counseling Internship

NYAP Office-Based Mental Health Internship: Newark, Zanesville or Mt Vernon, OH

The National Youth Advocate Program (NYAP) is currently accepting internship applications for our Mental and Behavioral Health team within the Columbus region. We are seeking dedicated interns for the Summer 2026 and Fall 2026 terms.

Working with our Mental and Behavioral Health team, you will gain invaluable hands-on experience providing services to youth and families in an office-based setting. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to rotate through various other therapeutic areas within the agency, gaining broader insight into the communities and diverse clients we serve. This position involves close collaboration with youth, families, foster parents, and community partners.

Enrollment in a Master level Social Work or Master’s level Clinical Counseling program is required.

Your Internship Experience may include:

  • Providing appropriate individual, group, and family mental health services, case management, transportation, and other professional services.
  • Traveling, if needed, to provide community-based services to youth and families in compliance with organizational, contract, and regulatory requirements.
  • Completing all required documentation in a timely manner.
  • Completing all required training in a timely manner.
  • Coordinating and monitoring services for the youth and family in the community, for mental health, medical, educational, psychological, vocational, and social services.
  • Regularly reviewing and modifying youth-based plans to assure consistent progress and success on written plan goals.
  • Assisting in family reunification and/or stabilization efforts with the youth’s primary family or other permanent living arrangements consistent with the youth’s case plan.
  • Actively participating in the weekly supervision process.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or comparable Human Services field from an accredited institution.
  • Enrolled in an accredited institution for a Master’s Degree in Social Work or Master’s in Clinical Counseling.
  • An internship or field placement is a requirement by your academic institution.
  • Upon the completion of the internship, the individual would receive credit toward their pursued degree.
  • LSW, SWT or CT licensure required.
  • You must be 21 years of age on the first day of your internship.
  • Capacity to remain objective and professional in all areas of job function.
  • Proficient use of desktop and laptop computers, smart phones and tablets, printers, fax machines and photocopiers as well as software including word processing, spreadsheet and database programs.

Driving And Vehicle Requirements:

  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Reliable personal transportation.
  • Good driving record.
  • Minimum automobile insurance coverage of $100,000/$300,000 bodily injury liability.
