Job Description: Master’s Level Social Work/Counseling Intern – Addiction Services
This internship provides a comprehensive training experience in addiction services, focusing on treating co-occurring issues in a community-based setting. The program is designed to mirror employee training, integrating interns as integral members of the treatment team.
Key Aspects of the Internship:
• Opportunity Time Frame: Academic year-long internship, beginning in the last week of August and running through May. The start date is flexible.
• Learning Model:
• Individual, group, and family psychotherapy (in-person & telehealth).
• Interdisciplinary team environment (psychiatrists, psychologists, psychiatric nurse practitioners, registered nurses, social workers, and professional counselors).
• Shadowing and observation of supervisors and advanced clinicians.
• Individual and group supervision.
• Monthly didactic training seminars.
• Addiction Services Focus:
• Community-based treatment of co-occurring disorders.
• Emphasis on group modalities, with individual sessions as needed.
• Service delivery includes:
• Intensive Outpatient
• Traditional Outpatient
• DUI Education
• MAT (Medication-Assisted Treatment), including Methadone dispensing.
• Student Expectations:
• Provide direct clinical services: Individual/group/family therapy.
• Service Delivery: Provide in-person & telehealth services.
• Clinical Skills: Case conceptualization, treatment planning.
• Assessment: Observe diagnostic evaluations.
• Care Coordination: Case coordination, referrals for Sheppard Pratt programs, case management.
• Training Participation: Attend monthly training seminars & lectures, individual & group supervision.
• Administrative and Client Engagement Tasks:
• Administrative projects.
• Discharge summaries.
• Client engagement projects.
Eligibility Requirements:
• Master’s-level graduate students from accredited universities with social work or counseling programs.
• Addiction counselors (AA or BS) must have completed their coursework and be enrolled in an internship course through their academic institution.
• The Academic Institution must have an existing affiliation agreement with Sheppard Pratt.
