Job Description, Detailed

This position is for a Master Level Clinical Intern at Kids Above All’s Lake County location.

Reporting Structure: Interns will work closely with a house therapist. Before starting, interns will meet with both the house therapist and the clinical supervisor to determine the best fit for a specific house.

Work Schedule: Interns are expected to work approximately 24 hours per week and maintain a fairly consistent and predictable schedule.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Functions):
Individual Client Support: Provide auxiliary clinical services to clients on an individual basis as needed, as recommended by the treatment team.
Family Cases: May pick up additional family cases if recommended by the treatment team.
Milieu Intervention: Work with all clients in the milieu setting to provide clinically appropriate interventions, including:
• Processing and mediating arguments.
• Implementing, coaching, and practicing coping strategies.
• Resolving conflict.
• In vivo problem-solving of socio-emotional issues.
• Assisting clients in applying therapy strategies (e.g., grounding, deep breathing) in real-world situations.
Therapist Collaboration: Collaborate with the house therapist on how to best meet the clinical needs of clients within the home environment.
Home Visits: Conduct home visits and work effectively in a socially diverse environment.
Resource Development: Seek opportunities to build clinical resources, group curriculum, and rewards programs to support and enhance the milieu as a therapeutic environment.
Documentation: Take over the paper documentation for one client in its entirety, ensuring all necessary documents (including Individual Treatment Plans (ITPs), Mental Health Assessments (MHAs), Staffing notes, and court summaries) are completed within the appropriate time frames.
External Communication: Collaborate with collateral contacts and maintain communication with external team members on behalf of the client, focusing on the client’s treatment and advocacy.
Professional Development: Be invited to attend any training offered during the internship and attend house team meetings if available.

Qualifications:
• Must be a student currently enrolled in a Master’s Level program for social work or counseling.
• Demonstrated interest in providing clinical treatment services for the adolescent population.
• Previous experience working with youth populations is preferred but not strictly required.
• Must be at least 21 years of age to intern.
