Job Description: Marketing and Communications Intern
Oliver Scholars seeks a creative and knowledgeable intern to assist with their marketing and communications efforts. This is a full-time, 35-hour-per-week internship running from June 24, 2025, to August 14, 2025. The intern will report to the Senior Communications & Marketing Strategist and gain experience in various aspects of marketing, branding, and communications within an educational non-profit.
Responsibilities include:
• Managing and updating Oliver Scholars’ social media presence, including scheduling posts, selecting images, and curating content from various sources to boost engagement and partnerships.
• Researching and sharing relevant articles, videos, news reports, and statistics related to education, college access, social justice, and educational disparities.
• Identifying and connecting with influencers in the college access field on social media platforms. This includes researchers, journalists, organizations, policymakers, and independent school administrators.
• Supporting event planning, including logistics coordination, promotional materials creation, and event execution.
• Documenting Oliver Scholars’ events through photography and live social media coverage.
• Creating event recaps, blog posts, and feature stories showcasing the organization’s impact and initiatives.
• Identifying potential communication-related partnerships with influential organizations in college access (NPOs, policymakers, researchers, DEI professionals).
• Contributing to the production of the Oliver Scholars newsletter (content creation, editing, and layout).
• Designing marketing materials such as flyers, graphics, e-blasts, etc., as needed.
• Updating the Oliver Scholars website to maintain current, relevant, and visually appealing content.
Qualifications:
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Currently enrolled in or having completed a college degree, preferably in a related field (English, Marketing/Communications, Graphic Design, Photography, or Public Relations).
• Prior internship or related experience in marketing or communications is required.
• Proficiency in Adobe Suite is highly desired.
• Knowledge of basic HTML and graphic design is highly desired.
• Strong computer literacy (word processing, PowerPoint, Excel).
• Self-motivated, organized, detail-oriented, able to prioritize tasks, and multi-task effectively.
• Passion for education, social justice, and equity.
Desired Competencies: The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong ethics, adaptability, innovation, planning/organizational and project management skills, interpersonal skills, analytical skills, and strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities.
