About I.M.P.

Formed in 1980, I.M.P. is a Bethesda, MD-based concert promoter and event production company. In addition to launching the Virgin Festival in the U.S. and Preakness InField Fest and programming and producing the Sweetlife Festival, the principals at I.M.P. own Washington D.C.’s legendary 9:30 Club, named the Top Club by Rolling Stone, Billboard and Pollstar, renowned as the premier place to see and hear cutting edge live music of all varieties. I.M.P. also programs and operates Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Md. and the Lincoln Theatre in Washington, D.C. The Anthem is the company’s new 2,500 – 6,000 person capacity venue, which opened to national acclaim October of 2017 on the Southwest Waterfront in Washington, D.C. Over the last 41 years, I.M.P. and the 9:30 Club have put on nearly 18,000 events, hosting millions of music fans.

Description: Marketing and Communications Internship

Duties & Responsibilities:

Website Management: Update company websites with show information, biographies, press photos, and assist in maintaining the internal artist database.
Street Team Coordination: Coordinate and maintain the street team calendar and activations.
Promotional Material Distribution: Organize, install, and track the distribution of promotional materials at venues, partner businesses, and other points around the city.
Copywriting: Contribute to copywriting efforts for marketing emails, press releases, social media, and internal marketing communications.
Brainstorming: Participate in brainstorming sessions for marketing and promoting upcoming shows.
Marketing Reports: Create marketing summary reports for artist agents/managers and department staff.
Promotional Material Preparation: Prepare marketing materials for I.M.P. promotional activations at 9:30 Club, Lincoln Theatre, The Anthem, Merriweather Post Pavilion, as well as non-I.M.P. venues.
Analytics & Targeting: Utilize Google Analytics and ticketing platform marketing tools to analyze sales reports and trends, and genre/affinity targeting.
Proofreading: Proof both physical and digital marketing collateral, including print and outdoor ads, social media content, and email communication.
Social Media Content: Work with the Social Media Manager to create content for organic and paid posts for venue social channels.
Press Support: Work with the Communications team to cover shows and assist with press efforts promoting upcoming shows by researching artist’s past press and interviews, artist information, and past and upcoming music releases.

Internship Schedule:

• Spring Semester (January – April)
• Summer Semester (May – August)
• Fall/Winter Semester (September – December)
