About Tesla:

Tesla is a leader in Autopilot technology and is building the world’s best in-car navigation experience. The Maps Engineer role bridges the gap between Autopilot technology and in-car navigation. The team focuses on developing next-generation algorithms using large amounts of data from the Tesla fleet to power features like Navigate on Autopilot and Smart Summon, as well as improving routing and turn-by-turn navigation.

Job Description:

This internship involves implementing next-generation algorithms using data from the Tesla fleet. The work is foundational for features like Navigate on Autopilot and Smart Summon, and also improves routing and turn-by-turn navigation. The ideal candidate is self-driven, experienced in high-performance application development, and enjoys tackling complex algorithmic problems. A data-driven approach and a passion for improving product quality are essential. Flexibility is key, as the role requires learning various technologies to enhance the customer experience, ranging from route quality and ETA prediction to self-driving capabilities.

Responsibilities:

Rapidly prototype in-car customer experiences.
Build full-stack features for both in-car maps and Autopilot navigation.
Extract meaningful data from fleet telemetry via automated processes.
Implement complete features with both client and server footprint.
Design, code, and debug software on Linux-based embedded platforms and Linux servers.
Work with a cross-functional team of hardware engineers, application/UI software engineers, QA/Validation, and designers.

Qualifications:

Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science or a related field with a graduation date between 2025 – 2026.
Proficient in one of C++, Python, Go, Scala.
Experience writing and shipping customer-facing code.
High standards for code quality, maintainability, and performance.
Willingness to learn new technologies across the stack: Vehicle Control, Routing/Guidance Algorithms, Server Infrastructure, UI, Embedded Systems.

Nice to have:

Experience with Maps / GIS / Computational Geometry data.
Experience in Spark, AWS, Kubernetes, Jenkins.
