Job Description
Manufacturing/Process Engineering Intern
Department: Engineering
Reports to: Senior Engineers
Wage Range: $27/hour
Responsibilities & Duties
This internship offers a hands-on learning experience in a manufacturing environment, focusing on process support, system utilization, and general continuous improvement principles.
Process Support
- Manufacturing Basics: Gain foundational knowledge by learning various roles, including:
- SMT Machine Operator (Trolley Load, Machine Operation)
- Selective Solder Operator (Component Prep, Assembly, Machine Operation)
- Job Shadowing: Observe and learn from experienced professionals in key areas:
- Process Technicians
- Documentation Technicians
- Manufacturing/Process Engineering
- Production Support: Provide direct assistance to production teams by addressing product-related challenges.
- Process Improvement: Actively contribute to improving processes within assigned areas of expertise.
- Data Analysis: Analyze process data to establish achievable improvement goals and offer recommendations for continuous improvement projects.
- Compliance: Maintain processes to ensure adherence to SFE and customer quality systems, industry standards, and best practices.
- Problem-Solving: Apply creative problem-solving methodologies to resolve issues related to processes and products.
Systems
- Utilize various software tools for in-depth root cause analysis and trend analysis of manufacturing issues.
General
- Continuous Improvement: Apply continuous improvement principles consistently and proactively identify opportunities to reduce waste and optimize processes.
- Safety & Compliance: Adhere strictly to safety, ESD (Electrostatic Discharge), and general shop floor guidelines while performing all tasks.
Minimum Competencies/Qualifications
- Education: Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a closely related field.
- Communication Skills: Possess excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Work Environment: Ability to thrive and contribute effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Problem-Solving: Familiarity with standard problem-solving techniques.
- Computer Proficiency: Familiarity with standard computer applications.
Physical Requirements
- Stamina: Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods, as required by specific job tasks.
- Vision: Must be able to pass a vision exam with a minimum visual acuity of 20/25 in at least one eye (with or without corrective lenses).
- Color Perception: Must be able to pass a color vision test to accurately distinguish color-coded components or materials.
- Multitasking: Demonstrated ability to prioritize and effectively perform multiple tasks concurrently.
